Guyana: Bartica construction worker arrested for robbery at Good News Fellowship Church

Guyana Police officials have arrested a 37-year-old construction worker from Bartica after reviewing the CCTV footage. The suspect is accused of stealing a music box valued at $150,000 and cases of Banks Malta and Thrill soft drinks from the Good News Fellowship Full Gospel Church located at 35 Fourth Avenue, Bartica, Region Seven.

According to the information shared by the Police, the accused was arrested at his residence around 11:00 am, after the pastor of the Church, 60-year-old, Andrew Persaud, complained about the robbery at the church.

The Pastor informed that he secured the church at 20:00 PM on Saturday night and went to his residence. When he returned to the church at around 07:30 am on Sunday morning, he found the door of the church open. After making further checks, the pastor found out that a music box worth $150,000, four cases of Banks Malta worth $20,000 and three cases of Thrill soft drinks worth $7,800 were missing.

The police reached the site and inspected the area, and reviewed the footage from the cameras that had been mounted on the building, resulting in the catching the construction worker leaving the church with stolen material in his hands.

Subsequently police raided his house and arrested him for the crime he did. After being arrested, the Bartica man who robbed admitted that he stole the above-mentioned articles. He told the Police that the music box was hidden by him opposite a burial ground on Seventh Avenue. He also told the police that he shared the beverages he stole, with his friends.

Currently, the suspect is in custody at Bartica Police Station and is assisting with further investigation.
