The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has confirmed Guyana as the host for the 2025 finals. In 2026, Barbados will host the finals for the first time at the well-known Kensington Oval. Caribbean Premier League CEO Pete Russell made this announcement after reaching a one-year deal to hold the upcoming finals in Guyana.
Pete Russell, speaking with great enthusiasm, expressed their connection between Guyana and Barbados with CPL, now in its 12th season. Later, he thanked the governments of the respective countries for agreeing to host the conclusion of CPL.
Having said that, Mohammed Irfan Ali, President of Guyana, seized the occasion to express the wishes of the government and the people of Guyana by supporting the Amazon Warriors for victory in this year’s end finals. Adding more, he said it would be a great success if the team were to emerge victorious in the finals two consecutive times.
The event was announced shortly after Guyana successfully hosted the 2023 and the current year 2024 finals of the CPL. The Guyana Amazon Warriors emerged as the CPL champions in 2023 and they are eyeing to make a record of back-to-back victories in the CPL.
The Republic Bank CPL championship game for 2024 is set to happen on October 6th, 2024, at Providence Stadium in Guyana. The Guyana Amazon Warriors will face the Saint Lucia Kings on the night of the finals.
The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the finals in 2026. “It makes me so very glad to share that the CPL finals will be in Bridgetown at Kensington Oval in 2026.
She added that if Barbados doesn’t win this year, the team will catch up next year.
Kensington Oval Stadium is a beautiful and ancient ground among the Caribbean’s most iconic cricketing centers. This stadium does justice to this prestigious league. It will bring Barbados to the spotlight and help develop tourism. It will attract people from all over the region and any other fans from the global scene.
CPL has become one of the most awaited and viewed T20 tournaments in the world over a period of 12 years, with teams coming from all Caribbean regions to contest for the title.
Trinidad has hosted the CPL finals for six times. They hosted the finals twice at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain City in 2013 and 2015. Followed up by four times at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba from 2017 to 2020.
The other was Saint Kitts and Nevis, who hosted the CPL final at Warner Park in Basseterre in 2014, 2016, and 2021.
Thousands of cricket fans from all across the world come to watch the finals and support their favorite teams. It has become a yearly event that everyone marks on their calendar.
