Caribbean: Silver Airways announced an extra flight to Dominica amid the disruptions of the scheduled service with the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The service was launched to accommodate the travellers and passengers who booked their flights to the island nation through the airline.
The flight will operate from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Dominica at 6: 00 am on Friday with the aircraft 3M6104. The disruptions of the flight to Dominica, Puerto Rico, British Virgin Islands and United States Virgin Islands were recorded due to Tropical Storm.
Silver Airways also added three extra flights on Thursday to several destinations including San Juan, Tortola and Dominica as the disruption cancelled the flights scheduled to operate from Monday to Wednesday.
For Thursday, Flight 3M6001 provided direct service from San Juan to Tortola at 7: 45 am, aiming to accommodate passengers. The second flight of the day was operated from Tortola to San Juan at 9: 05 am. The service will be provided by aircraft 3M6101.
For Dominica, the service was given by 3M6113 from San Juan at 5: 30 pm, offering direct access to the island nation.
Silver Airways also announced the fee waiver for the disrupted passengers and stated that the travel must have been booked on or before Sunday, August 11, 2024. The airline added, ”We hope our customers have all been safe and well through the recent due to Hurricane Ernesto. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities.”
Tropical Storm Ernesto intensified into Hurricane on Wednesday while moving towards the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The hurricane brought massive rainfall and thunderstorm across the regions, causing extreme flooding on the streets.
After that, the Hurricane Ernesto turned into category 3 and brought massive destruction towards its movement through Bermuda. Now, most of the Caribbean countries are out of the danger of the storm, but the powerful winds caused huge destruction several parts including Puerto Rico, St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda.
Dominica also experienced massive rainfall and flooding on the streets due to the TS Ernesto on Tuesday.
The major problem that was seen during the passage of the Hurricane was the power outage in the Caribbean countries. On Tuesday, St Kitts and Nevis grappled with blackout situation as the citizens left with darkness due to heavy rainfall. Trees had fallen, vehicles have been destroyed and the streets were filled with extensive water, causing flooding across the communities.
Even in Puerto Rico and British Virgin Islands, the situation further gets intensified due to the Hurricane winds. As per the met department, Hurricane Ernesto is likely to bring up to 10 inches rain this weekend across Bermuda.
