The 45th Chess Olympiad held in Budapest welcomed over 193 teams from across the world. Dominica had played its rounds 7 and 8 of the tournament on 18 September 2024 and 19 September 2024, respectively. Their performances have been great during both rounds.
In the 7th round, the Women’s team faced Laos, where they won with a score of 2.5-1.5. The Women’s National Champion, Ayani Casimir, has won on board 1 of the tournament. Dorothy Jno Baptiste won on board 4 of the game. Liudmila Domennova had a strong match with her opponent, which resulted in the draw of the game.
During Round 8 of the tournament, all the women players performed their best against the Netherland Antilles but were unable to score. Round 8 ended with a disappointing score of 4-0. But there’s a lot of hope for the upcoming matches of the women’s team in the tournament.
The Open Team of Dominica faced Bahrain in Round 7 of the tournament. Larry Thomas, a player from Dominica, secured a draw against his opponent from Bahrain and scored half a point. Even though there was tough competition from both sides, Bahrain was successful in taking the game in their favor with a score of 3.5 – 0.5.
During Round 8 of the Open Team, there was a competition against San Marino. Though the players tackled well with their opponents, San Marino took the lead by 3-1. Both Larry Thomas and Nigel Francis from Dominica made a draw against their opponents. Sources indicate there will be better results in the upcoming matches of both the women’s and men’s teams.
Dominica Chess Federation has updated the information about the game on their official Facebook page. They congratulated all the winners and showed immense support to all the other players. Netizens have shown their respect towards both the teams for playing so well, especially the Women’s team during Round 7.
Sources indicate that both the teams have been practicing tirelessly day and night to secure victory in their upcoming matches of the olympiad.
Budapest is the host of this 45th Chess Olympiad, which has over 193 Open Category Teams, along with 181 Women’s Teams. The olympiad kickstarted on 10 September 2024 and will continue till 23 September 2024.
So far in the tournament, various teams have participated exceptionally well. This is the first time for many women’s teams across the world after the FIDE took the lead in promoting chess games across the world.
