Four Saint Lucians have become a part of the Windward Islands squad following their enthralling victory in the 2024 WINLOTT Windward Islands Under-15 Tournament.
These players were the part of the winning Under-15 Saint Lucian squad who contributed to their team’s massive victory on Sunday against the defending champions Dominica at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
Players named to Windward Islands squad
The Saint Lucian players who have been named to the Windward Islands squad include, the Captain of the Under-15 team, Jeanille Williams; all-rounder Daniel Lorde; hard-hitting batter, Kyle Stephen and fast bowler, Kaleb Charles.
What happened on Sunday’s match between Saint Lucia and Dominica
Saint Lucia were initially sent to bat, who were dismissed for 115. However, the Saint Lucian players kept fighting throughout and were able to bowl out Dominica for 110. Therefore, this nail-biting match concluded with Saint Lucia’s victory, winning their another WINLOTT Windward Islands Under-15 Tournament title.
Saint Lucian Cricket Association President on victory
The President of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association, Wayne Auguste extended congratulations to all the team members for winning the 2024 WINLOTT/Windward Islands Under-15 Male Super-50 Cricket Championship.
He acknowledged the unwavering hard work and determination of each player and said that they are truly worthy of this remarkable achievement. He also appreciated all the players for their dedication and commitment and added, “Your determination and dedication have truly paid off.”
President Auguste further mentioned about the hard work of all the coaches and added that they have put in their long hours in guiding the players to this achievement.
“Without the coaches, players would not be properly guided, and the work of the coaches, the involvement of parents and teachers, and all who supported these young players in the beginning, I extend a sincerest thank you to all of you.”
Auguste also specially congratulated four players who have been selected to the Windward Islands squad. He motivated them to continuing to make efforts with a vision to bring glory to Saint Lucia’s name.
WINLOTT U-15 tournament
The Windward Islands U-15 Cricket Championship was conducted between 4 Caribbean nations including, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines. All these teams featured a mix of promising cricketers from across the region, competing for the ultimate trophy.
The WINLOTT Cricket tournament is a tournament which plays a crucial role in promoting and fostering the talent of young cricketers. Windwards Cricket Inc is the official body which is responsible for cricket in the Windward Islands.
