Caribbean: Tropical Cyclone 5 has intensified into “Tropical Storm Ernesto” with maximum sustained winds of 40mph. Now, the system has been approaching towards the Leeward Islands and St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and Dominica are under threat.
Amid the passing of the Tropical Storm Ernesto, the flood warning alert has been issued for Dominica. It was predicted that the country is likely to receive up to 6 inches of rain and the heavy rainfall will lead to the flood warning. The warning will remain in effect until 6 pm tomorrow.
The met department issued the warning and asked the citizens to remain cautious by outlining the flood safety tips including- people will have to avoid driving through floodwaters and there is need of get an emergency kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications and a flashlight.
In addition to that, other countries including St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda under the Tropical Storm Warning due to the major threat of the storm which will bring heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms.
As per the met department, the storm surge will raise water levels as much as 1 to 3 feet and the potential tropical storm is likely to bring massive weather conditions.
In wake of the inclement weather conditions, several major flights have been cancelled as Caribbean Airlines announced the cancellation of all the flights to and from Trinidad, Antigua and Barbuda and St Kitts and Nevis.
The flight disruptions have also been announced for Tuesday by Caribbean Airlines and stated that the inclement weather conditions will pose threats to the region.
Several new routes have been updated for the disrupted flights and the passengers whose plans are impacted by these flight disruptions many rebook without change fees.
All flights to and from St Maarten are also cancelled due to the passing of the Tropical Storm Ernesto. The Princess Juliana International Airport and VC Bird International Airport have also announced the closure amid the inclement weather conditions.
