Saint Lucia: The highly anticipated Saint Lucia Premier League (SPL) is all set to make a comeback, announced the CEO Hasan Eristhee. He shared that the league will begin on 11th April 2025 and will be played across several different locations of the island till 17th May 2025.
The announcement was made at the press launch on Tuesday, held at the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Conference Room.
During the conference, the CEO highlighted Cricket in Saint Lucia is a “Hobby”, he further emphasized that the government is taking important steps to move it towards professional sports.
Hasan further expressed gratitude to Government of Saint Lucia for the support they have been providing for making his vision come to life. He stated the league is a blessing for the players, emphasizing that they are excited for the upcoming tournament.
Teams participating in Saint Lucia Premier League
There are a total 8 teams participating in the cricket contest this year which are as follows;
- Babonneau Leatherbacks
- Micoud Eagles (defending champions)
- Central Castries City Blasters
- South Castries Lions
- Gros Islet Knights
- Soufriere Stumpers
- Choiseul Craftmasters
- Mon Repos Pioneers.
It is to be noted that the matches this year will be played over four different venues including Mindoo Phillip Park, Gros Islet Playing Field, Philip Marcellin Ground, and La Farge Playing Field.
Minister Kenson Casimir highlights Saint Lucia Premier League as a major milestone
The Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Kenson Casimir highlighted that the league will be helpful in creating a semi-professional cricket league, during the press conference.
He also shed light on various milestones achieved, including the creation of semi-professional football, the establishment of the high-performance centre and government’s nearly $1 billion investment in Semi-professional leagues and player compensation this year.
SPL: A major boost to engage youth
Notably, the SPL will act as a major boost towards controlling crime and engaging the youth towards better employment and industries which in turn helps them to live a quality life and perform well for their countries.
