The 32-year-old Maren DaSilva, businessman of Guyana, still remains on remand even after being charged with the murder of his partner, namely Kenesha Vaughn. The case was reported to the authorities in February 2025.
As per the reports, he shot and killed Kenesha at their home in Diamond, East bank Semerra. He still remains on remand even after being charged with the murder four months ago. His next hearing is scheduled for July 10.
The case was studied by the Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate Court on Tuesday. After studying the case, Magistrate Latchman gave the order for a Preliminary Inquiry (PI) against DaSilva. “PI” is a judicial hearing that is held in the Magistrate’s court for serious offences such as murder, this process is not mentioned as a trial rather it is review of evidence to determine if there is enough to commit the case for trial.
In DaSilva’s case, the PI which is due to be conducted via a “Paper Commital”, in the PI the magistrate will review the written evidence and arguments, instead of the traditional in-person hearing. And to make this process proceed the defence must file statements from witnesses involved in the case.
DaSilva is accused of killing Vaughn on the evening of February 22nd at their home shortly after both of them returned home from an outing. As per the investigations and police reports, after reaching home they both got into an argument when DaSilva slapped Kenesha, and in return Kenesha reached for a knife in anger and approached him.
As Kenesha approached DaSilva in anger with a knife, DaSilva allegedly pulled his licensed firearm and fired several rounds in her direction. As a result she was shot multiple times, later the police were informed and she was taken to the Diamond Hospital, where she because of her injuries lost her life during medical treatment.
The incident was recorded in CCTV footage and has been submitted as evidence for the case in the court.
