The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has released the schedule of events for the 46th independence celebration to be marked on November 3. The theme of this year’s Independence Day is Peyti Nao, Kado Nau (Our Country, Our Gift). The main event awaited by the spectators became the Independence Parade held on September 28.
At 3 PM, the grand parade will commence on Goodwill Road and pass through the beautiful Roseau Streets, ending where it started. In promotion of this colorful island steeped in culture and history, it has pledged to offer many levels of performances and cultural events for this year’s celebrations.
The activities for the Kalinago Week events are now popular, and the people of Dominica celebrate it with full joy. The Kalinga Council has announced a number of activities from the 15th-22nd of September, 2024. The theme for this event is “Unity In Diversity, Embracing Kalinga Culture.”
The guests will have the opportunity to see a dance show based on various aspects of Dominican folk music of the Jing Ping genre, which is an important part of the history of this country. Drumming on some rhythmic beats and sounds could be heard all around the streets.
Events under Kweyol Culture will start with a national wear parade takes place on Friday, October 25, which is a very popular day. This is because everyone on the island wears traditional clothing and parades through the streets with pride. National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is scheduled for September 21 and 22, the last day of celebration.
While the official opening ceremony is scheduled for September 27 and the Independence Parade on September 28. National Heritage Day is held on October 20. The National Youth Assembly is held on November 1. These patriotic celebrations culminate with National Community Service Day on November 11.
