Trinidad and Tobago: A man from Trinidad who was posted as missing on social media has been arrested. The reports reveal that he has been looking for asylum in the United States and has been charged with burglary and motor vehicular theft. This happened after the car he allegedly stole crashed into another vehicle.
The arrested man is 24-year-old Diamond Samuel, who is currently being held in a US jail on a $25,000 bond on two charges of burglary and one charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
Following the complaint received, the Darien Police Department gave Samuel’s address as Lincoln Parkway, Brooklyn, New York. He was arrested on Saturday by the officials while the vehicle he was driving got involved in an accident with another car.
On investigating the officers on the scene quickly realized the vehicle he was driving did not belong to him and was stolen from a residence. Police revealed that he had difficulty operating the manual transmission vehicle which led to the crash.
Taking the investigation further revealed that the owner had left her car keys on her kitchen counter. Police also shared that Samuel also had possession of an iPad that belonged to a similar woman.
Police also reported that Samuel was found wearing a hospital scrub and bracelet. When asked, he initially refused to give his details to the officials at the scene.
Moreover, the missing person information was shared on social media over the weekend in an attempt to locate Samuel, who was said to have been last seen in the New York district.
It is to be noted that Samuel, who is a dancer from Sangre Grande, recently sought asylum in the US because of constantly being a victim of crime based on his sexuality.
