Nassau, Bahamas: A 35-year-old pregnant woman who has been accused of human trafficking was recently denied bail.
The prosecutors alleged that the Jamaican national, Apolonia McClean, was the one who had trafficked a woman with the purpose of exploitation. This happened between the duration of September 1, 2023, and November 3, 2023.
Also, McClean is suspected in the case of transporting the woman with the aim of trafficking her and was involved in the conspiracy to commit trafficking in person.
During her hearing, McClean denied the allegations before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley. After listening to her side, she was denied bail.
Later, it was announced that the next trial is set for November 21. According to the details shared by McClean’s lawyer, she’s seven weeks pregnant and is currently nursing a seven-month-old, so she was seeking bail.
Also, it has been revealed that Jamaican McClean is married to a Bahamian. It is to be noted that in the year 2004 also, she was convicted of human trafficking.
At that time, she was penalized to three years and eight months in prison after the magistrate found out that she forced a woman into prostitution. Later, it was revealed that she tricked her into thinking that she was called from Jamaica to work as a cashier.
