Samal Duggins, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport, and Culture of St. Kitts and Nevis, participated in a volleyball match at the occasion of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-21 Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship. The fun-filled tournament was held on the beautiful Marriott Beach on the 1st of September, 2024, drawing teams from across the Eastern Caribbean for a weekend of sportsmanship and community engagement.
ECVA Under 21 Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship was held in St. Kitts and Nevis for the second time. Furthermore, the teams that participated were Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, St. Lucia, Grenada, British Virgin Islands, St. Eustatius, Saba, Bermuda, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Anguilla and St. Kitts & Nevis, the hosts. The competition was a series of interesting and closely fought games which proclaimed the eagerness and ability of the teams.
Samal Duggins, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport, and Culture of St. Kitts and Nevis, attended the event and actively participated in a volleyball match. Dressed in casual sportswear, he stated, “The commitment and sacrifices made by these young athletes are truly commendable. Events like this not only showcase talent but also build character and strengthen community bonds.”
Moreover, his participation was warmly received by players and people. The local community came out in full support, with fans cheering for their teams and displaying exemplary sportsmanship. Besides being an active participant on the court, the minister also made time for the players, coaches, and fans. Minister Duggins congratulated all the players who had participated in the tournament. He mentioned and appreciated the commitment and sacrifices they brought about. The championship executed complete sportsmanship.
The president of ECVA, Dr Carla James, was equally impressed with the championship’s outcome, saying it had contributed to good sportsmanship and talent development among young men. Events like the ECVA Under-21 Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship are important in promoting volleyball and fostering healthy competition in the Eastern Caribbean,” she said. She further added, “The success will be a foundation for future tournaments to improve, adding prestige to beach volleyball tournaments.”
As the sun set on the final day of the championship, it was clear that the event had achieved its goals. The players left with memories of fierce competition and camaraderie, while the fans departed with a sense of pride and anticipation for the next championship. The ECVA Under-21 Men’s Beach Volleyball Championship has undoubtedly strengthened the bonds within the Caribbean volleyball community, setting the stage for even greater achievements in the future.
