The West Indies made a 116/2 to make a 3-0 win against the South Africans in the T20 series by eight wickets.
The T20I finale match started off slow due to rain. Rain delayed the T20I finale face-off between West Indies and South Africa at the Brian Lara Stadium. , which was supposed to start at 3 pm by an hour. Soon after the match resumed, the rain returned in the fifth over of the South Africa innings, cutting down the match overs to 13 overs per inning.
South African team has had a win of eight matches against South Africa since March 2023. This also marks the third series’ back-to-back victory in the T20 World Cup. The West Indies team marked a powerful victory stand in this format at the T20I series to prominently mark the dominance against South Africa.
South Africa had made a run of 23-0 as the rain started off. After the rain halted the match for a while, Tristan Stubbs made a dashing 40 runs from 15 balls for the visitors to witness a 108-4 after a slow start. He hit 6, 4, 6 from consecutive balls in the 11th over bowled by Obed McCoy and 4, 6, 4 in the final over bowled by Forde. He was out with two balls left in the innings. The crowd cheered for him aloud as he hit five fours and made a finish in the series with 144 runs at a strike rate of 178.
The West Indies started off in the second innings following the DLS method in the third and final match of the series at the Brian Lara Stadium chasing a target of 116 runs. Pooran managed to make the crowd cheer alike for him as he hit two fours and four sixes. West Indies was 60-2 when Pooran was out to the fifth ball of the fourth over and coasted to victory with 22 balls remaining. A special mention is made to the partnership of Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmeyer, who scored 31 runs from 17 deliveries in an unflinching partnership of 56 for the third wicket.
The duo of Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickelton started off but failed to kickstart the innings. South Africa’s batting saw the jerk as they started off the innings. Throughout the match, the crowd witnessed a lack of individual contribution in the South African team which paved the way for the victory of the West Indies 3-0 at the T20 World Cup 2024.
