Roseau, Dominica: The 2023/2024 tourism season has turned out to be historic for Dominica with the arrival of 425,155 visitors from across the globe. The figure marked the 15% increase over 2019 tourism season, as per the announced by Denise Charles.
In a tourism budget highlights 2024/2025, Minister Charles outlined that the tourism sector of Dominica recorded significant boost in the cruise and air arrivals. Several factors have contributed to the growth as all tourism dimensions recorded hike from the previous years, as per the data provided by the ministry.
In the sector of stay-over arrivals, a 13% hike has been recorded over the financial year of 2022/2023. On the other hand, a total of 18% surge has been recorded in the visitors arrived from French, West Indies and the United States.
Cruise Arrivals
The budget highlights outlined that there is 11% increase recorded in the arrivals through the cruise ships in Dominica from the 2022/2023. While the growth has marked 62% increase from the period of pre-pandemic which is 2019/2020.
Minister Denise Charles also outlined that Dominica is expected to experience 230 new calls in 2024/2025 cruise season, which will also mark the growth in the sector. On the other hand, 356, 311 passengers will arrive in this season through cruise ships, marking significant growth in the sector.
The cruise sector has been contributing significantly to the economic growth of Dominica as the country recorded numerous inaugural calls of the ships. The country has also been preparing for the construction of the Roseau Cruise Village and Cabrits Marina, aiming to empower the sector.
The infrastructure will facilitate the accommodation of the big and massive cruise ships, further leading to the hike in the arrival of tourists or the stay-over visitors.
Cable Car
Dominica has been constructing the world’s longest cable car which will showcase the journey from Roseau to boiling lake to the world. With the construction, over 200 people have been employed at the site and the work is ongoing on 15 towers.
As per Minister Denise Charles, the project is expected to be completed by the end of next year, aiming to bring influx of tourists from across the globe.
Champagne Beach Development
The beach development is another major milestone in the tourism sector of Dominica, aiming to bring the stay-over arrivals with the showcase of the beauty of the country. The budget outlined that $1.7 million investment has been allocated to the construction of the beach in the country.
