Dominica: Melissa Poponne Skerrit, the Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development has announced to introduce and establish the first ever Nursing Nook in collaboration with UN Women on Monday, 21st October, 2024.
This nursing nook in Dominica will be a dedicated lactating and changing space for toddlers and infants which will be established with a vision to provide a comfortable space for both children and their parents.
This announcement was made by Minister Melissa Skerrit on the opening ceremony of the Ti Vilaj Kweyol. It is a celebration of the vibrant culture and traditions of the country, offering citizens with delicious treats, music, dance and local crafts.
The Dominican Minister noted that this nursing nook will be permanently located in Roseau. She added that the main purpose of introducing this nook is to create a comfortable space for parents to breastfeed their children and change their diapers. She added that it would give a huge relief to those parents who come from town and lack a suitable place.
Moreover, she also mentioned about the opening ceremony of Ti Vilaj Kweyol and stated that it simply turned out to be beautiful. She appreciated the display of culture and creativity by the citizens and added that there was something for everyone.
The Parliamentary Representative added that they are committed to make Ti Vilaj Kweyol an inclusive space for everyone in the family, where people from all age can celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the nation.
She added that it is a place where the creativity and talent of the local citizens are respected and displayed. She mentioned that it is a great opportunity for the citizens to showcase and sell their locally produced goods, generating revenue for the nation.
The Minister added that this event is a lively venue for celebrating the vibrant culture in terms of music, dance, artisans and much more.
