Sint Maarten: A performer from Trinidad who visited the country to perform at a concert was shot with a gun with his group while he was going back.
According to the information shared by the St Maarten Police Force (KPSM) reported that on Sunday morning, the artist had performed at a concert in the Maho area. While he, along with his group, was leaving the concert venue in a black minivan, multiple gunshots were fired at them.
Following this, the artist is fighting for his life at a hospital in the Dutch overseas territory as he is in critical condition. However, the other three men and a woman who were also injured are also serious but are currently in stable condition.
The police officials of St Maarten have not yet revealed the name of the performer; however, several local social media outlets have shared that the injured performer was a Trinidadian.
In addition to the ongoing investigation into the shooting, the Internal Affairs Department of the Police Force of Sint Maarten is conducting its investigation into the presence at the scene of police officers and Immigration officers.
Moreover, it has been revealed during the investigation that the officers were paid for the security services they were to provide to the visiting entourage. But they were not on duty related to police work.
Further, the National Detectives (Landsrecherche) are conducting a separate investigation into this matter. Emphasizing the seriousness of the issue, the investigation has been handed over to the National Detectives to ensure an in-depth and impartial inquiry.
The netizens have been expressing worries one user by the name of Rebecca Low commented, “I know it is low season aka ‘silly season’ but this is getting more that worrisome.”
The police department has also urged the residents if they have any information regarding the incident, any picture or any video, they should immediately share it with the authorities so as the investigation can be taken out and the suspects can be arrested.
