St. Vincent and the Grenadines: To provide support to the countries that had been badly hit by the Hurricane Beryl, the British High Commission in Kingstown has provided the relief package for the St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.
Also, through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) the UK government has provided £500,000 of support aid to provide immediate relief to the families that have been impacted by the category 4 storm.
Several citizens lost their shelters and livelihoods, to help them the government of UK also sent an aid that included 800 shelter kits that are capable of supporting up to 4,000 people.
Additionally, 1,620 buckets for households to collect and store fresh water, this relief aid was sent immediately to provide people with safe and clean water storage for the ones that went homeless due to Hurricane.
The British High Commissioner also worked with CDEMA and supported the arrangement of emergency response teams, setting up and running emergency operations centers, telecommunication, assessing needs, and also taking care of the logistics.
It is to be noted that the new British Government is prioritizing treating climate change and its devastating impact on the world. Although St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada are politically independent from Britain, they still have Britain’s King as their ceremonial and constitutional Head of State.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced the financial support, he stated that the funding will support the recovery efforts following disaster.
