Castries, Saint Lucia: Two daylight shooting deaths have been reported within a 24-hour period in Saint Lucia on Tuesday and Wednesday. In the community of Babonneau, two people were reportedly being murdered by masked men who further escaped the incident site.
Two deadly shooting incidents have occurred within close proximity to Early Childhood Learning Centre which is also reffered to as Pre Schools. The first incident was witnessed by Preschoolers and Facilitators.
The second shooting incident occurred at around 12: 30 pm in the community of Balata, Quarter of Babonneau. An investigation has been launched into the matter as more details are yet to come.
The citizens expressed anguish with the incidents and said that the children were scared due to the shooting incidents. In both incidents, young children were exposed to the brutal shootings as parents complained that they are afraid of sending their children to school.
One Babonneau resident who we spoke the fear of venturing outside of locked doors. This as persons are fearful of reprisals rumored by talk “on the ground”. The individual who we spoke to explained: “People are now scared to leave their homes due to the talk that is going around.”
Another resident also shared the message and added that her child was so scared that he is even getting frightened with any sort of sound. One mentioned, ”I have talked to my child, and he told me mummy I see the ambulance taking a dead man.”
People demanded proper investigation into the matter and added that the government should work for the safety of their children.
Notably, the first victim of the homicide was Burn Boy who was also known as Lucky who met a fatal encounter on Thursday shooting incidents. There are “back channel” suggestions about possible linkages between the two homicides and conflicting information on the correct identity of the latest victim.
