Castries, Saint Lucia: Julien Alfred created history and became the first-ever athlete from Saint Lucia to win two Olympic medals. She won a silver medal in women’s 200m in Paris on Tuesday by recording a second best time of 22.08 seconds.
Paris Olympics 2024 has remained quite memorable for Julien Alfred as she has not only finished the medal drought of Saint Lucia but also won back-to-back medals in one Olympic.
The government of Saint Lucia hosted the Watch Party for Julien Alfred and gathered on the streets after wearing colours of the national flag. The government officials and the opposition leaders of the country extended greetings and changed their profile photos and cover images with the winning moment of Julien Alfred.
PM Philip J Pierre added,” May we always remember the pride, joy and unity that you brought to our beloved island. Congratulations Julien Alfred on your historic victories at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.”
Ernest Hilaire- Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia added,” Double Olympic medalist Julien Alfred!! Our Olympic medalist Julian Alfred!! 100m Gold, 200m Silver medalist, Julian Alfred!! From Ciceron, Saint Lucia to Paris, France, her name will live forever, Julian Alfred.”
Julien Alfred started her Paris Olympics journey with the historic Gold Medal in the women’s 100m on Saturday. She clinched the first-ever medal for Saint Lucia with the time of 10.72 second and defeated the US’s most decorated athlete Sha’Carri Richardson who finished the game at the second position.
With her victory, she garnered the attention from across the globe and lauded huge appreciation from her countrymen. She got emotional by standing at the winning podium of the game at the Olympics and noted that the moment was quite exciting for her and her country.
People also celebrated her success by coming out of their houses and dancing on her victory in the Olympics 2024. The government also stopped the cabinet meeting to watch the semi-finals of Julien Alfred and celebrated her pave to the finals.
With victory, Saint Lucia became the most searched country in these two days as the small island state gained huge attention.
