Roseau, Dominica: A tropical wave alert has been issued for Dominica as the system is currently located near 36W from 04N to 17N. It is now moving westward at 10 to 15kt and is likely to pose a threat to the island nation with severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
The met department announced that the system progression is intensifying and is likely to turn into a cyclone in the coming days. The tropical wave is projected to pass north or near Dominica sometimes overnight on Monday and Tuesday.
As per the possible impacts, the models outlined that the country will experience gusty winds with moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms. In addition to that, the moderate to rough seas are also likely to affect the stable weather conditions of Dominica.
The tropical wave is rolling in today with showers and chances of thunderstorms as advisories have been issued for the low-lying and flood-prone areas. With the chances of the formation of a tropical cyclone, the weather is likely to bring hazy conditions and slight to moderate seas.
If the waves will peak and reach near 7 feet, then the sea conditions will pose threat to Dominica with heavy rainfall, causing the situation of the flooding and other things. A tropical wave in the Atlantic will also develop into a tropical depression by early next week and the system could be forecasted near Dominica overnight Monday and Tuesday.
The met department noted that the citizens should remain indoors in the coming and stock up their essentials for combat the issues in the coming days.
On Friday, Dominica will experience mostly cloudy and hazy conditions with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms. While on Saturday, the conditions are likely to get worse with the hazy conditions during the morning.
On Sunday, the scattered showers will also likely to impact Dominica amid the passage of the tropical wave. If develops, the tropical wave will be named as the “Tropical Storm Ernesto” which will form another natural calamity in the Caribbean region for this season.
