Paraguay: Dominica celebrated a moment of pride as Dominican shot put athlete and national record holder, Treneese Hamilton won a Gold medal at the Pan American Junior Games under the Women’s Shot Put category in the capital city of Paraguay, Asuncion.
Her winning throw was measured at 17.21 meters, and got Dominica its first ever gold. Her win is being highly appreciated by the Sports committee of Dominica.
The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) also appreciated her hardwork, efforts that made her win. The committee also mentioned that this would be her final year competing as a Junior athlete.
After winning the title, she described the moment as a bittersweet moment, yet showcased enthusiasm about competing for the last time under the Junior category and finishing her season with a gold was a great feeling.
On describing her win with a mix of joy and enthusiasm she said, “It is a great feeling of ending my Junior career with a gold. All the hardwork, early mornings and my practice resulted well, at this moment I am beyond grateful.”
Previously, she also participated in her first senior level tournament at the NACAC Senior Championships that were held in the Bahamas. According to her, the participation in the senior level tournament plays a major role in refining her technique and boosting her confidence which eventually led towards her incredible performance which helped her to secure a gold.
With one of the best players from all over America, she was considered a strong contender for a medal. Her opponents considered her calm and confident throughout the tournament as she had full faith in her technical skill, ability and determination towards her performance.
The 2025 Junior Pan American Games started on August 9, it featured over 4,000 athletes from 41 countries across the Americas. All the athletes were competing in a total of 28 sports in 42 disciplines.
The events included sports like cycling, wrestling, gymnastics, shot put open water swimming, BMX freestyle, water skiing, golf, field hockey and rugby.
The official closing ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025.
