The Federal Cabinet of St. Kitts and Nevis, led by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, visited public and private primary schools in schools in the Basseterre zone on Thursday. These visits are activities to spend time with the students conducted every year ahead of the Independence Day Celebrations.
The cabinet members visited many primary schools in the Basseterre zone, such as Deane Glasford Primary School, Halliday-Smith Primary School, Epworth/Maurice Hillier Memorial, Beach Allen Primary Schools, The George Moody Stuart School, Seventh Day Adventist and Tucker Clarke Primary School.
Students welcomed the team with warm hearts and excitedly interacted with government leaders, sharing their educational experiences, dreams or aspirations, and thoughts on education.
At the event, PM Drew and senior officials, including Foreign Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and Minister Konris Maynard, had the opportunity to meet with children from different school levels. They listened to these students’ worries, answered questions they could not find the answer to and encouraged them by speaking words of appreciation for what they had achieved so far.
Prime Minister Drew appreciated the school management, such as principals, teachers, and support staff, during the visits for ensuring effective administration. He noted their continuous work bringing up the students and giving them a valuable education.
Every Independence Day, which falls on September 19, a series of popular events is organized to celebrate the momentous day. This year, programs such as the Ceremonial Parade, Street Fair, Patriotic Day Fair, and National Colours Day will be celebrated with visits to various places throughout the city. The occasion reminds people of the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom and secured national independence for our country.
The school visits on Thursday last week kicked off the celebration of St Kitts and Nevis’s 41st Independence Day. Earlier this Wednesday, the Cabinet visited the primary schools of the West Zone. The cabinet will visit the secondary schools and Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), scheduled for September 17, 2024, marking the end of the visits to primary schools.
Through his social media, PM Drew shared pictures and moments captured when interacting with the children. He noted, “Spending time with the children, engaging with them, and witnessing their determination and vibrant spirits is truly fulfilling.”
