The 24th match of CPL was played between Barbados Royals and St.Lucia Kings on Sunday, September 22 at Providence Stadium Guyana. St. Lucia Kings won the match by 13 runs and acquired the top position in the playoffs list of CPL.
The playoffs carry a total of four teams, and along with St. Lucia Kings (SKL), the other three teams are Barbados Royals (BR), Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW), and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).
Barbados Royals captain Rovman Powell won the toss and decided to bowl first. Luckily, the Kings succeeded in facing the bowlers. However, the Barbados Royals wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock’s quick hand at striking the stump took the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Roston Chase by Keshav Maharaj and Maheesh Teekshana respectively.
St. Lucia King’s Johnson Charles played some good boundary shots scoring the 53 runs of 42 balls. Ackeem Auguste had to retire hurt but before that, he scored 35 off 32 balls. Tim Seifert’s 45 off 25 balls took the St. Lucia Kings to winning position. The Kings had to chase a total of 150 runs and succeeded in making a total of 162 runs and won the match by 13 runs. However, both the teams had booked their position in playoffs.
Johnson Charles became the player of the match. The player expressed his excitement on the win saying, “We played yesterday, and we saw how it played, it was very slow and it turned a bit. The plan was to hang around and capitalise when it was your matchup. [on the switch-hit] It was something I had to put into my game, no secret that the left-armers were causing me problems. It is not perfect at this stage but I will keep adding stuff to my game. To be honest, I’m at the point of my career where it is about experience taking over, on these sort of wickets it is about absorbing pressure and then taking it from there.”
The 26th match of Caribbean Premier League 2024 to be played between Trinbago Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings on 24th September 2024 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy. Now, the St. Lucia Kings have 12 points because of their three back-to-back wins. The net run rate (NRR) of the team is 0.543. Meanwhile, the Trinbago Knight Riders are in the fourth position of the playoffs table, carrying 10 points and acquiring a net run rate of 0.480.
