In the CPL 2024,Trinbago Knight Riders outplayed Guyana Amazon Warriors in a dramatic last over win at the at Queen’s Park Oval. Russell and David’s partnership led the to victory, securing the second spot in the playoffs.
Trinbago Knight Riders putting the pressure from start made the Guyana Amazon Warriors struggled in the powerplay. The Guyana Amazon Warriors lost early wickets and reached 42-2 in six overs to TRK spinners Hosein removed Kevin Sinclair, and Narine took wicket of Shai Hope.
Waqar Salamkheil bagged big wickets of the two important players Tim Robinson (34 off 28 balls) and Warriors captain Shimron Hetmyer. Salamkheil continued the pressured on Warriors With the score of 2-19, Dwayne Bravo took wicket of Keemo Paul and Narine got Gudakesh Motie left the Warriors at 76-7 after 12 overs.
For the next over, with only eight overs left and the Warriors at 76-7, Romario Shepherd entered the playing field along with Dwaine Pretorius, and adding 72 unbeaten runs , lead the Warriors with an score of 148-7. Shepherd outclassed his opponents with an unbeaten 51 from 24 balls, reviving the team’s chances against TKR.
Pretorius supported the duo with 21* off 25 balls, they ensured the TKR did not lose any more wickets in the last eight overs which formed strong momentum for the Warriors going into the break.
TKR, aiming for a total of 149, began on a weak note by loosing a wicket of Sunil Narine in the first over. Although Shaqkere Parris with slow momentum and scored 29 runs, losing Nathan Sowter’s wicket placed the Warriors at a relaxed position over TKR who had a total 50/3 at the half way stage of the match.
Guyana Amazon Warriers bowlers Shamar Joseph and Keemo Paul, troubled TKR middle batting linen, Pollard and Pooran. In the 15th Over TRK reached a score of 89/6 and required 60 runs from five overs. The outstanding performance of Russell and David took the advantage for TKR as the latter blasted an explosive 36 off 15 balls with four sixes boundaries.
David played remarkably with a 31*(24), and Russell’s aggressive batting saw TKR through in the 18th over.This was made possible by the 60 run-partnership the pair had,adding the breathtaking two sixes in the last over by Keemo Paul with four balls left in the game.
Winning this match had gained more points for the Trinbago Knight Riders leading them to the second spot in the playoffs. While the Guyana Amazon Warriors gave their best but still stayed at mid-table.
