Prime Minister Terrace Drew made his official visit to Canyon High School. The PM’s visit was a welcoming gesture for the students and staff back to campus after the completion of the rehabilitation project. PM Terrace Drew took this initiative to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment.
The school went under many modifications and high renovations during the rehabilitation process. New changes included new paintings, new railings and furniture, and the removal of wooden structures.
Other modifications that took place were the replacement of old school doors, poor window railings, and also the complete modification of bathrooms and washrooms in the school. These changes were made to maintain hygiene in school premises and protect the students and teachers from any disease or personal issues.
Taking to the Facebook account of PM Terrance Drew, he stated, “We have invested heavily to get the school ready, ensuring that the students and staff are safe and comfortable.”
PM Terrace has been seen taking follow-up on ongoing projects and work in the country in recent times. Earlier this month, he met the constituents and the community to look upon their external matters regarding the basic needs of proper roads, basic infrastructure, and various kinds of minor to major problems they were facing daily. His last visit to Canyon High School took place on 13th September 2024.
Besides this, the government has also been undertaking many other projects, including the development of Basseterre High School. This was planned to provide the school with a modern look, which includes a brand-new and better-equipped campus.
The authorities have also exempted school supplies from import duties and slashed down the interest rate on students’ loans from 9% to 5% at the Development Bank.
These efforts by the government will assist in a better study environment for the students, and the university will provide each and every facility to the students at affordable rates. The proposed budget is the highest investment that has been made to the school in the past decade.
PM Terrance has also mentioned in his Facebook post that he had spoken to Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Education. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley assured that St. Kitts and Nevis is fully up to date with its payments to the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
The Prime Minister aims to focus on the citizens’ well-being and matters of education to bring out the greater good of the country at the global level. Prime Minister Drew also confirmed that his administration will always be available to the students, teachers, and all of the residents to help them build better in the future.
