Roseau, Dominica: New Direct flights between the United States and Dominica are all set to start this fiscal year due to the extension of the Douglas Charles Airport. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Dr Irving McIntyre during the 2024/2024 budget address.
Talking about the airport, he said that the airport sector has experienced exceptional growth with launch of the several services such as Sunrise Airways and American Airlines. He announced that the extension of the airport is almost complete and ready to benefit the airlift sector in Dominica.
He further outlined the projects for the accommodation demand which is increasing with the surge in the tourism sector. Within the next two years, five new internationally branded hotels being constructed under the Citizenship by Investment Programme will be completed.
“The combination of these investments will help us to achieve the goal of welcoming 500,000 stay-over arrivals and 1 million cruise visitors by 2030, ”said the finance minister.
He also gave a call to the private entities for their contribution in the tourism sector and said that each of the citizen of Dominica has the duty and responsibility to enhance the sector.
Finance Minister also mentioned about the different accolades that Dominica have received in recent times including Travel+Leisure, Forbes, BBC and New York Times.
In order to promote Dominica as premier tourism industry, the country should enhance its customer delivery system and ensure the safety of the natural resources. He asserted that the cleanliness and beautification should be prioritized to attract years.
He added that the Douglas Charles Airport has contributed greatly in accommodating several flights from the airlines such as American Airline and others. Now, the tourism sector has been growing significantly due to warm community of the country.
Finance Minister urged for the contribution of the people of Dominica in enhancing the tourism sector by conserving the natural resources and beauty of the country.
