Thea Lafond met Housing Minster Dominica Melissa Skerrit after becoming Dominica’s first athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 after earning a national record jump of 15.02m in women’s triple. Theo received a grand and warm welcome on Sunday when she returned to Dominica after her victory at the Paris Olympics 2024. She was warmly greeted by Melissa Skerrit, Minister of Housing, Denise Charles, Minister of Tourism, and several other government officials.
Housing Minister Melissa-Poponne-Skerrit welcomed Thea Lafond-Gadsonin at her own custom Creole Couture wear boutique, Dons and Divas. She proclaimed how big of a celebration is this for Dominica. After welcoming the champion, she later took it to her socials and wrote, ‘’It was both a pleasure and an honour to host Dominica’s first gold medalist Thea Lafond-Gadson at Dons & Divas Boutique !!! We are so excited to facilitate the creation of her custom creole couture wear from our in-house designer. Look for Thea in our custom wear this creole season!’
Also, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit received a courtesy call from Olympic Gold Medalist Thea Lafond-Gadson to discuss some crucial measures that would be required to take the sports industry further towards development. Dr Skerrit congratulated Thea Lafond during a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office. Dr. Skerrit regarded this meeting as an opportunity to congratulate the Paris Olympic Gold Medalist on her outstanding performance.
In addition to the ongoing celebration, the 30-year-old athlete also attended a reception party at the State House Conference Centre, as stated by the PM.
This is not only a big win for Thea Lafond but also for Dominica. She proudly stated, wearing her gold medal on receiving the overwhelming welcome, “Words cannot describe how proud I am of this country. Beyond this medal, I have had the opportunity to truly present myself to the world, and it is now anything new; I have always known how beautiful we are inside and out, beyond our land and people, but the ability to showcase it to the world that feeling has been unmatched.”
