St Catherine, Jamaica: During the wake of reggae artiste Chris Martin’s grandmother, seven people were shot at Point Hill, St Catherine. The shooting happened early morning on Wednesday when an individual opened fire while the family and friends were gathered to honour the deceased grandmother.
According to the reports, one person who was standing a few meters away from the wake was also fatally wounded among the seven who had been shot.
The witnesses shared that the incident occurred around 2:00 AM while the family was mourning and cherishing their memories with the old lady and were praying for her.
The Police officials of Jamaica shared that during the wake, gunmen invaded the gathering, began open firing, and escaped the scene on foot.
Commenting on the incident, Chris Martin took to his Instagram account to condemn this inhuman act. He states that after the attack, ‘my heart is heavy’ as he reflects on what happened last night at his beloved grandmother’s wake.
Describing his grandmother, he shared that she was a woman of deep faith and endless sacrifice, and she was the one who taught him the true meaning of love and community.
Condemning the heinous act, he stated that it is devastating to see violence take over the moment of peace and remembrance.
He further stated that he does not support and strongly condemns every form of violence and also extended sympathies to the families that have been affected by this senseless act.
Chris Martin added, “I pray for those involved to come forward and for our community to support the authorities in bringing justice. Jamaica, we must do better. Life is too precious to be consumed by violence. Let’s choose peace.”
Many netizens have expressed their grief over the heinous act and have urged the authorities and people to remain vigilant. Also, they are demanding stricter gun control measures and stricter penalties for the ones that are caught.
