Grenada: The island of Grenada was hit hard by the then Category-4 Hurricane Beryl last week, which led to severe destruction and also left the residents without electricity. However, the Grenada Electricity Services Limited (Grenlec) has today announced that over 97% of the properties on mainland Grenada have got the power restored.
The update further shared that only 2000 customers are left without electricity as of today. The affected customers are mainly the residents of St. Patrick.
Grenlec stated that these areas have experienced damage majorly due to Hurricane Beryl and has also urged the residents to assist the electricity workers by providing access to their properties if there are any fallen trees and debris.
Earlier this week, the workers of Grenlec restored the electricity at the communities of Marli / Mc Donald College Road, Bathway, Cedars and Levera in St. Patrick.
Also, after assessing the damage during his visit to Grenada, Saint Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre sent the crew of St. Lucia Electricity Services (LUCELEC) to help the electricity department of Grenada with the helping hand in this crucial situation when the whole island was facing a blackout.
Being the first team to arrive the island, LUCELEC crew will provide support to the crew on mainland Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The six-member team will be allocated the north of the island to assist the Grenlec team with restoration efforts, initially.
Additionally, today the island received team from Barbados Light & Power Company, the second team that has arrived in Grenada to support restoration efforts. The Barbados team will be stationed at Carriacou to work on restoring the electricity for the consumers.
Grenada and Grenlec have extended gratitude to the teams that have come to help the island get back the electricity and the people can start leading a normal life after they have survived the life-threatening beryl.
