With an aim to raise awareness regarding early detection in the fight against breast cancer, Guyana’s First Lady, Arya Ali, has partnered with Dr Balwant Singh Hospital and has announced to provide free 1,000 mammograms for women across Guyana.
This announcement was made during a fundraising event, “Chari-Tea” on Sunday.
This initiative has been thought about in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and with an aim to make the women in Guyana aware about the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer.
Breast Cancer is a kind of cancer that begins as growth cells, after they mutate and become cancerous cells that multiply and form tumors. This disease affects millions of women worldwide each year.
During the event, First Lady Arya Ali stated, “Early detection saves lives. I believe that every woman deserves access to life-saving screenings, and by sponsoring these mammograms, I hope to empower our community of women and encourage them to prioritise their health.”
It is to be noted that the mammograms will be provided through two local non-governmental organisations (NGOs); the Guyana Cancer Society and the Guyana Cancer Foundation.
First Lady Arya Ali mentioned “Be sure to reach out to these groups to secure your voucher for a free mammogram.”
First Lady Ali thanked everyone involved in the fight against breast cancer and she asserted that she and her team is committed to support the women in Guyana.
This ongoing initiative is part of Arya Ali’s idea to promote women’s health. Even last year, she sponsored 200 mammograms.
Guyana’s First Lady added, “For years, the government, our medical community, the business community, and advocates have helped to make great progress in the fight against breast cancer.”
She ended her address with, “I am proud to be a part of that movement today. I believe we have not just a responsibility, but a moral obligation to support our women who are the backbone of our homes and communities.”
