The Leeward Islands Cricket Board 50 Overs Tournament commenced at Warner Park, St. Kitts and Nevis, on Sunday. St Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, and Combined Islands are the featuring teams of the tournament. The schedule for four days has been released, which will run till October 4, 2024. The games will be played at Conaree Cricket Ground and Warner Park Stadium.
The first day of the tournament started with two matches. The first match was played between Antigua & Barbuda and Combined Islands. Anguilla and Nevis performed in the second match. The first match was held at Conaree ground, while the second match was played at Warner Park Stadium.
Combined Islands, being the new team, became an easy target for Antigua and Barbuda in the first match. Antigua & Barbuda team successfully snatched the game from Combined Islands. On winning the toss, Combined Islands decided to bat, and the team lost all the wickets within 39.3 overs, scoring 173 runs. Aviskhar Sewkarran missed his well-deserved century at 96 runs. However, Aviskhar Sewkarran was the backbone of the team.
For Antigua and Barbuda team, it was an easy target to chase the score. In just 18.2 overs, the Antigua and Barbuda team crossed the target score with a run rate of 9.49 per over. Similar to this year, in 2023, the first match was played by Antigua & Barbuda against the newcomer team Combined Islands. However, the winner of the tournament was Antigua and Barbuda.
This year, the Nevis cricket team is sponsored by the Bank of Nevis in this Leeward Islands Cricket 50-over Tournament. The Nevis team had declared that the team would consist of 14 players, and the team would be playing under the assistance of Captain Theron Bussu and the vice-captain, Carlon Bowen Tuckett.
The upcoming matches are scheduled for October 1, October 3, and October 4. The playing teams are Antigua and Barbuda vs. Anguilla, St Kitts vs. Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda vs St Kitts, and Nevis vs. Combined Islands, respectively. The second match of 4th October, Nevis vs Combined Islands, will be played at Conaree Cricket Ground, and the rest matches will be played at Warner Park Stadium. The stadium will be packed up by fans supporting their team.
Since 2015, the Leeward Island Cricket Association has been the ruling body of Caribbean cricket. Every year, the tournament brings cricket enthusiasts all together to cheer for their team.
