Roseau, Dominica: The highly anticipated Delegates’ Conference of Dominica Labour Party highlighted, the unity, resilience and vision of the DLP with its people-first policies.
The Conference held on November 10,2024 at Vieille Case constituency reported a massive success as large number of people attended the event.
PM Skerrit began his address by sharing his personal political journey, he recalled the moment when he was first launched as a candidate by the Dominican Labour Party in 1999 and 24 years later, he is the serving Prime Minister of the country.
He gave the credit to the constituents and expressed gratitude to his loyal supporters for trusting him and letting him take decisions that are for the betterment of Dominica.
PM Skerrit emphasized on the primary goal of the Labour Party stating, “the people of Dominica are our focus, whether it’s providing homes, ensuring healthcare, or building opportunities for all, our party is committed to delivering for every Dominican.”
Further describing the Labour Party PM Skerrit stated, it is an inclusive and welcoming organization, where there is place for everyone. He stated that in the party there is room for every human being regardless of the background or past political connections.
During the conference he announced that in history the Labour party has never lost in the Vieille Case constituency, and he also highlighted that whoever wins this seat makes the government.
The Labour Party in Dominica is a symbol of unity and promoters of culture, and the recent 46th anniversary of independence is the proof of it.
Dominica Labour Party’s Values and Achievements
Sharing the core values of Labour Party, Prime Minister Skerrit stated, that social justice, equality, and empowerment for all Dominicans is what the party believes in and stands on.
PM Skerrit also recounted the party’s achievements which include improving healthcare, education, infrastructure, and providing social protection, especially to seniors and children.
He emphasizes that the Labour Party has always placed the needs of the people at the center of its policies.
Labour Party’s history of overcoming challenges
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit also reflected on the challenges that Dominica has faced over the past years, but the unity, resilience and vision of Labour Party let the country sail the hardships smoothly.
Fighting against all the odds including climate change, natural disasters, global economic shifts, and social issues the DLP has been a pillar of strength, and has led the way in rebuilding, restructuring, and creating a better future for all Dominicans.
A senior citizen aged 78, after the conference while talking to the reporter shared that she has been a Labour supporter for more than two decades, and never has she seen such a party that has overcome every setback and emerged stronger.
Giving the credit to PM Skerrit she added that “our PM made us famous, people across globe know the name of our small island nation.”
Longest-Serving Government
PM Skerrit with pride announced that Dominica’s Labour Party is the longest serving government in the Caribbean and globally. In the past 25 years the party has just served the people and never had any other thought. “It’s always people first,” the Prime Minister asserted.
Ongoing Infrastructural projects in Dominica
Th government is always focused on making the small island nation parallel to the developed nations of the world, be it health, education and infrastructure.
Several schools are under construction to enhance the educational sector. Focusing on the health sector Dominican-China Friendship hospital, Marigot hospital, and over 12 new health centers across the nation have been constructed.
Further the International Airport that had its groundbreaking ceremony on November 9,2024, Dominica’s Cable Car project, Geothermal power plant are to name a few.
Dominica’s Rapid Recovery After Hurricane Maria
Even though Hurricane Maria shattered the island nation, their unity and resilience helped it rebuild better and stronger. Many experts stated that it would take 20 years to rebuild the nation, PM Skerrit proudly informed that it was done in just 24 months.
This demonstrates the efficiency of Labour Party, strength of Dominica and divine support.
Delegates’ Conference by Dominica Labour Party a celebration of success
This year it was a celebration of the achievements and Dominica’s journey of resilience, the conference kept under the theme-“Legacy of Commitment, A Future of Hope,” lives upto it and was joined by the Prime Minister of Grenada- Dickon Mitchell and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J. Pierre.
Grenada’s PM Dickon Mitchell lauded the unity of DLP
PM Mitchell highlighted the importance of unity and commitment to the people, praising the Dominica Labour Party. He reflected on the lessons that his own party, which is the National Democratic Party, learned from the inner fights and disunity.
PM Mitchell stated that success comes from staying united, focused on workers’ rights, and always keeping the people-first.
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J. Pierre praises PM Roosevelt Skerrit for his leadership
PM Pierre praised PM Roosevelt Skerrit for his leadership and vision that he had while rebuilding Dominica after the devastation caused by the hurricanes. He further lauded PM Skerrit’s vision in making Dominica self-sufficient and on the path of development with several key projects like the international airport, cabrits marina and many more.
PM Pierre further urged that Caribbean leaders to stay united and not let the enemies disrupt their unity or hinder their achievements.
Additionally, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed gratitude to the guest speakers and party workers for joining and concluded his address by pledging to guide the country to greater growth and building a brighter and prosperous future.
