Bridgetown, Barbados: The government of Barbados has shared the statistics which confirms that fish consumption in the country has doubled in quantity as compared to the other countries across the globe.
Confirming the statistics, Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox, Chief Fisheries Officer, stated under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, our consumption is twice the global average of fish per capita.”
During the press conference she shared that in the recent years, the estimated fish that has been caught in Barbados is above 881 tonnes and the number that has been imported is separate.
Further Dr. Cox reaffirmed that in Barbados this is not going to change anytime soon as eating fish is part of the Barbadians’ cultural identity, so even in future people will continue having fish in same quantity or more.
The citizens have been cherishing their memories with fish after the stats have come out, one user by the name Gloria Greaves commented, “Oh we do love our fish, remember the days when we were sick as kids and we were given fish broths, and after having that people did not get sick often.”
Also, the data shared in 2023 revealed that Fish Consumption in Barbados per capita was 43.88 kg.
