Trinidad and Tobago: Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley announced that Keith Scotland SC, has been appointed as a Minister within the Ministry of National Security. This decision has been taken with an aim to appoint him to assist with the country’s national security operations, specifically dealing with policing issues.
This decision has been taken to assist with the portfolio of duties within the Ministry, Dr Rowley shared that while speaking at the post-Cabinet briefing which was held at the Whitehall.
PM Rowley stated that he advised President Christine Kangaloo to include Scotland to the Cabinet. And his addition is to specifically focus on the policing issues.
“I have appointed MP Keith Scotland as Minister in the Ministry of National Security, particularly to deal with police issues, police government issues,” Dr Rowley shared.
There are several ongoing issues within the police department, some effective police officers have gathered significant leave, while some have to be brought back. There are several issues that are specific and require expertise to tackle.
Dr. Rowley further added that some of the issues are drug trafficking, offender management, management of illegal immigrants, money laundering and drug enforcement that needs to be taken care of.
Additionally, Erla Harewood-Christopher, Police Commissioner, said that the police officials have been constantly putting pressure on criminals. This has been done with the implementation of several road exercises and numerous other police exercises has been initiated over the past few weeks to deal with the rising murder toll.
