Antigua and Barbuda: The much-anticipated LIAT 2020 is likely to return to the skies in the first week of August 2024 to commence its commercial operations. The announcement was made by Prime Minster Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda while addressing the concerns about the delay in is official launch.  

He shed light on the processes which are being left for the final return of LIAT 2024 and said that they had a court hearing on yesterday for the final approval of the court for the government of Antigua and Barbuda to acquire three aircrafts.  

For the acquisition of those aircrafts, the government will subsequently have to further invest US$10 million to get aircrafts air worthy. Thereafter, Antigua and Barbuda should have fix to six aircraft and in any case the two aircraft that are here from Air Peace.  

Air Peace have commenced the operations and Prime Minister Browne added that they were told the scheduled flight will commence in the first week of August 2024.  

Following LIAT 1974’s closure in late January 2024 and received farewell from its regular customers. Further, the government of Antigua and Barbuda collaborated with Air Peace to re-launch the airline with brand new aircraft which has come into public domain with different livery and designs.  

In a photo which gone viral on social media, the repainted Embraer ERJ- 145 registered 5N-BVD which has been seen wearing its new livery with the logo of “LIAT 2020.”  

The logo is located at the fuselage side and tail, further the letter “A” has been added inside the aircraft. The picture is of half-sun similar to that on Antigua and Barbuda’s national flag with “winds” in the background.  

The LIAT 2020 has been delayed due to several approvals from different stages as the aircrafts that have been landed from Nigeria have also reported some sort of issues in their engines during their first testing period.  

Now, PM Browne assured the public and said that the airline would return to the skies in August 2024 for commercial operations.
