Tropical Storm Ernesto in St Kitts and Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis: The passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto brought heavy rainfall across St Kitts and Nevis, causing destruction with a massive flooding and excessive waters on the streets. The trees have fallen at several places and the buildings got cracks due to the inclement conditions of the downpours.  

As the Tropical Storm Ernesto passed through St Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, the localized flooding in several districts and caused damage to the infrastructure. Trees were fallen by the powerful winds at Silver Reef Condos in Frigate Bary and the roof of the Cayon Police Station was about to be blown off.  

Several trees have also fallen on the vehicles that were stranded on the streets and caused destruction and loss to public property. Due to the heavy rainfall, coconut trees fell across the Frigate Bay Strip driveway and disrupted the public flow.  

Due to the turmoil of TS Ernesto, widespread power outages have been reported across St Kitts and Nevis. The districts including Boyds, Palmetto Point, Estride, Frigate Bay, Southeast Peninsula, Industrial Site, New Road, and sections of Greenlands, Saddlers, Dieppe Bay, Bird Rock, and Gillard have been facing the situation of the blackout in St Kitts.  

In Nevis, the districts including Gingerland and other parts oof Hamilton have faced the destruction of TS Ernesto in the form of the blackout and other property damage.  

The roads at Vic Dezen Boulevard in front of Marriott Resort and Old Road Wingfiled Ghaut were filled by the excessive flooding water.  

At midnight, the intensity of Tropical Storm Ernesto has been increased and brought massive rainfall, but with time, the storm started moving away from St Kitts and Nevis.  

Now, the offices and the government premises have been reponed for Wednesday after closure due to the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The Tropical Storm Warning has also been removed for St Kitts and Nevis as met department announced that the Ernesto has moved away and not been posing any threat.  

According to the met department, the Tropical Storm will turn into Hurricane on Wednesday and is likely to impact the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and other neighboring countries.  

Due to extensive weather conditions, the flights have been disrupted due to the closure of the international airport. Several airlines have cancelled their flights amid the inclement weather conditions including Caribbean Airlines, interCaribbean Airways and others.  

 Icon of the Seas- the cruise which has docked at Port Zante 6 to 7 times has cancelled its call due to the weather conditions and the threat of the Tropical Storm Ernesto.  

As the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season is underway, Tropical Storm Ernesto is the first storm and is likely to become the second hurricane after the passage of Beryl.
