St Kitts and Nevis: A Tropical Watch has been issued for St Kitts and Nevis amid the threat of the passing of the “Storm Ernesto.” The Federation is directly in the path of the storm and the conditions are likely to pose a threat by the morning or afternoon of Tuesday.
According to the current weather conditions, the tropical system has been approaching the region and is forecasted to convert into Tropical Storm Ernesto in the coming days. With such conditions, it is also expected that the Tropical Storm Watch into a Warning by tomorrow morning.
Residents are asked to remain cautious and monitor the current situation as inclement conditions could pose threats to low-lying and flood-prone areas.
As per the impact, St Kitts and Nevis is likely to impact with the heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms amid the passing of the Tropical Storm. The Maximum sustained winds are near 30mph with higher gusty winds and the system is also expected to be a tropical storm in the next 24 hours. It is now moving towards the west northwest near 23mph.
The Tropical Storm Watch has also been issued for Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, and Anguilla as the conditions could also pose threat to these countries. The disturbance is expected to become a tropical storm before reaching the Leeward Islands and the conditions will bring flooding.
Heavy rainfall will result in flash flooding and mudslides in portions of the northern Leeward Islands on Tuesday and Wednesday. The flash flooding will pose a threat to Puerto Rico and other nearby countries on Wednesday.
As the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season is underway in the Caribbean with the prediction of 15 to 20 hurricanes. The season is also predicted to remain super active as St Kitts and Nevis will experience the threat of the heavy rainfall and other inclement conditions.
In wake of the inclement weather conditions, the government of St Kitts and Nevis announced the closure of the offices. The offices will remain closed on Tuesday, and the general public is advised to take note and plan accordingly.

Hurricane Season 2024 will run through November 30, 2024, and the conditions have been causing disturbance across the Caribbean region. The Tropical Storm Ernesto is another threat for the region after the passage of Hurricane Beryl that has devastated the islands including Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica.
Now, St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda is under the radar of storm and the conditions are likely to bring inclement weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.
