The Barbados Meteorological Services has announced that they are closely monitoring of an area of interest in the Central Tropical Atlantic approximately 932 miles / 1550 km east of the Lesser Antilles. This information was shared through the 11:00 AM update.
The current alert states that there are no watches or warnings currently in effect for Barbados
Sharing the potential impacts, the Met department mentioned that the system is expected to pass north of Barbados between Monday, 12th August, and Tuesday, 13th August 2024.
The department also described the expected weather changes, including reduced wind speeds and warmer temperatures on Monday. Also, Barbados is likely to witness warmer temperatures likely along with localized activity.
Further, it is to be noted that moderate showers may generate rainfall accumulations of up to 2 inches with the risk of localized flooding.
Additionally, the public is advised to monitor the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS), the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) websites and their social media pages.
The residents must also keep an eye on the local media networks for further weather related updates in the coming days.
Significantly, the model guidance recommends that the system is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles by 13th August. There are some uncertainties related to its intensity, but the environmental conditions are marginally favourable for slow development.
It is indicated that a tropical depression is likely to form as the system tracks west-northwestwards in the coming days.
Also, the Barbados Meteorological Services will issue the next weather update on Monday, 12 August, at 11:00 AM. If the circumstances demand, the residents will get prior information and warnings.
