Today, at the opening ceremony of the Olympics 2024 in Paris, Sailor Thad Lettsome and sprinter Adaejah Hodge have been handed over the opportunity to carry the British Virgin Islands’ flag and represent their country.
This is the debut at Olympics of both the young athletes, and they have received the responsibility to be the flagbearers. Also, they will be leading the tea, of four members while they will be sailing through the River Seine in a floating parade to commence the games.
Both of them will be accompanied by Kyron McMaster who is 400m hurdler and is back for his second Olympics, and first-timer Rikkoi Brathwaite in the 100m sprint.
Chef de Mission Tahesia G. Harrigan-Scott OLY will also join the team in the parade.
This will be the first time an Olympic Ceremony will be held outside of a stadium. The teams will be on 100 boats and will pass under historic bridges and by several iconic landmarks, which include the Notre-Dame, the Louvre and some Games venues.
The teams will arrive opposite the Trocadero – the esplanade across from the Eiffel Tower – where the official protocols will be carried out, the Olympic cauldron lit, and the Paris 2024 Games officially declared open.
