The West Indies Men’s cricket team is set to host the side for Bangladesh in a series billed as the ‘West Indies Home for Christmas.’ The three-match CG United ODI series will be played between both the teams, scheduled for 8–12 December in Warner Park, St Kitts & Nevis.
This series is not just about cricket, it’s about exhibiting victory and power, change, persistence and above all, the spirit of festivity.
The West Indies, who recently stunned England 2-1 in the just-concluded Reno T20 Tri-series, has vowed to continue the good form with a mix of newcomers and veteran players.
Daren Sammy, the head couch has made two great moves. Hayden Walsh Jnr and Jewel Andrew are out of the combination and in their places, all-rounder Justin Greaves and wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo are included in the squad.
Greaves comes back to the side is after a terrific CG United Super50 campaign in which he set a record with three successive List A centuries. Jangoo gained his deserving place in the list of Super50 top scorer, with his average being an impressive 89.20.
Jewel Andrew, however, will not be taking part in such static role. He is off to India to improve his skills at the Chennai Academy and concentrate on playing under spin bowlers.
Brandon King will be the team’s vice captain, and Shai Hope will be leading the team towards new heights. Speaking to media, Sammy stated that Greaves as well as Jangoo brings the much-needed balance and flexibility in the team especially noting that they are working for the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup.
The three match ‘Home for Christmas’ series augers more than competitive cricketing action. It is a chance for the fans to support a team that has its roots firmly set in the past, but eyes set prominently on the future.
Going into this festive Caribbean cricketing event, attention is focused on Warner Park in particular.
Will the West Indies be able to keep up with their winning spree? In particular, the artistic and managerial new blood on the team appears poised to produce a memorable holiday present for the fans.
