Castries, Saint Lucia: Opposition United Workers Party criticized PM Pierre-led administration and unveiled that the newly build Blanchard Community Centre remains closed. The centre which also serves as a Hurricane Shelter for the people across the island, has been shut down without reason.
As claimed by opposition leader Allen Chastanet, the government of Saint Lucia continues to victimize the constituency of Micoud South as after 3 years of Labour’s Party administration, the newly built community centre is closed.
The community centre was built to host the community events and serve as the hurricane shelter. He said that the community centre had been derelict for years and his government made it a priority to fix the structure not only to be able to house community events, but also for local government headquarters and for a hurricane shelter.
The centre has been finished and the Labour party took three years to figure out how to open up the community centre, as per the Allen Chastanet. He criticized the government and said,”Do you all really care about the people, you talk about good governance, every local government association is supposed to have a representative nominated by the opposition by the parliamentary representative.”
He noted that the constituency branch council for Micoud South despite nominating a person, making it known that the person has been nominated. “They have not been appointed and you want to talk about good governance in the country. What more do we have to expect, what more proof do we need that this is a government that is focused on protecting the victory and has never been concerned about protecting the people.”
Notably, Saint Lucia Labour Party celebrated three years of being elected in the prime minister’s office on Sunday. Due to this, UWP outlined the malpractices done by the party in these years and stated that they have done nothing for the welfare of the country.
