Trinidad and Tobago: A Facebook market scam has left a man from Arima losing a valuable camera lens worth $6,400. It is being said that the suspect disguised himself as a buyer and faked an online bank payment.

According to police reports, the victim advertised his Tamron 150-600 SP camera lens, valued at $6,400, for sale on the popular online platform in June 2025. Further, the reports claimed that, a potential buyer on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025 contacted the victim and showed interest to buy that lens.

The police officials further stated that the victim himself told the officials that the suspect claimed that he would pay him online and meet him to get his pack on the next day. Further he claimed that he met the man at the South Park Mall, on June 18, to finalize the transaction and after assuring the payment, he handed over the product to the guy.

Additionally, he claimed that when he checked his bank account there was nothing as he did not receive any money from the buyer. However, when the victim looked for him, the guy had already disappeared with the lens and after that he made no contact.

Further on October 13, the victim reported the whole incident to the Mon Repos Police Station and after that the officials started their investigation into the matter.

Authorities claimed that the guy who disguised himself as the buyer has been identified as Keshawn Pleasantville. And with that they also stated that the victim is a 30-year-old man, a resident of Cocorite Trace, Tumpuna Road, Arima.

Along with this they also said PC Koon Koon will lead the investigation. They also warned the public to be safe and not to believe anyone, especially when it comes to something about online shopping, and with that they also said do not believe anyone or any online payment.

The community of Trinidad and Tobago are once again shocked with the incident as this is the new scam alert in the nation. The people are expressing their concern and feeling through the social media platform as they are saying “First off you have to make sure the money is in your account BEFORE handing over your stuff! Especially with online banking if they are with another bank.”

Meanwhile, some people are also saying that “why now!! He should have complained about it before, exactly when the incident happened, what’s the point of complaining now.”
