Trinbago Knight Riders out of the race for the Caribbean Premier League 2024 following their defeat against Barbados Royals, the latter having won by 9 wickets. The floodlight failure interrupted the game due to which the result of the match fell in line for the Royals, based on the DLS method.
The match was started with the Riders winning the toss and deciding to bat first. After the early departure of Sunil Narine, the other two batters, Jason Roy and Nicholas Pooran took charge and formed a solid partnership. They both got off to a brilliant start until Roy fell in the final ball of the Powerplay.
Following his dismissal, Kieron Polard promoted himself up the order but failed to showcase the impact, scoring only 17 runs in 19 balls before getting out. Russell also faced difficulties at the back end, contributing only 20 runs in 18 balls with 1 six and 1 four.
However, Pooran once again did, what he is known for, playing a massive unbeaten knock of 91 runs in just 60 balls. He not only accelerated his innings but also helped the team in leading towards decent score of 168 with 3 wickets down in 19.1 overs.
On the other hand, the chase for the Barbados Royals was cut down to 5 overs and they needed 60 runs in 30 balls. After clinching the wicket of Quinton de Kock, a hope raised among the Riders which didn’t last long as Miller’s monstrous knocking completely shifted the control of the game towards the Royals, and broke any expectation that the Knight Riders were left with.
David Miller smashed Chris Jordon for 17 in an over, which inclined the momentum of the game towards Barbados Royals. Following this victory, the Barbados Royals finally broke their 4-match losing streak against Trinbago Knight Riders.
Now, Barbados Royals will clash against the loser of the Qualifier 1 i.e. Guyana Amazon Warriors or Saint Lucia Kings. After the match, the skipper of the Royas, Rovman Powell stated that the luck on that day was on their side. He also praised Miller for his knock and called it unfortunate for the bowling section of the Riders.
On the other hand, the captain of the Trinbago Knight Riders, Kieron Pollard mentioned that it would have been definitely difficult for the Royals to chase if it was a full game. He also praised Pooran and stated that the dedication and determination shown by him is truly incredible. He also aims to expect such determination from the youth as well coming into the team.
