The Roseau Enhancement Project is a major step in developing the capital city of Roseau. The Commonwealth of Dominica formalized its first loan agreement to improve Dominica. The loan agreement is signed on the 14th of September to rehabilitate roads in the City of Roseau. The project focuses on adding advanced infrastructure to the existing structures.
Mellisa Skerrit, Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, mentioned funding as the ‘driving force’ as it will improve and prosper the city’s infrastructure and give a new life to the city. The infrastructure will improve the streets and attract tourism and investments. The project will eventually elevate the quality of life for citizens.
The minister also added, “Our capital must be a destination that travelers are eager to explore, a showcase of our country’s best where history, opportunity, and a healthy, vibrant environment exists,”
The project’s mission is to improve the city of Roseau’s living standards and elevate Dominicans’ quality of life. The vital components that will focus on improving the streets of Roseau are drainage works, utility works, improved street lights, road rehabilitation, sidewalks, and street furniture.
The improved drainage system will prevent the city from flooding, and street lighting and improved electricity service will reduce the chances of road accidents. The project agrees to provide essential road services that will improve the socio-economic status of Dominica.
The project will improve the city and create numerous job opportunities. The Honourable Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit ensured that as the project progresses, the public will engage in several works that will eventually create employment. He stated, “The fact of the matter is, there has been tremendous earth movement and other development on the international airport site, and our plan is to engage the Dominican people more directly as the project progresses.”
Minister Irving McIntyre signed the loan agreement for the Government of Dominica and the Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Fund for Development.
PM Skerrit thanked the Saudi Arabian leaders for their interest in the bilateral relationship between the two countries and for joining hands to develop Dominica. He praised him by saying, “Your dedication to global development is widely recognized, and we truly feel this effective partnership is beneficial to the progress of our country through Saudi Arabia via the Saudi Fund for Development.”
