St Kitts and Nevis is all set to construct 76 homes around various constituencies, including, St Peter, Ottleys and Sandy Point.
These homes are a part of the climate-smart home initiative being constructed by East Coast Housing Development Ltd.
This initiative shed light on the commitment of the government to revolutionize housing programme in the country, providing affordable and comfortable housing facilities to the deserving families of the Federation.
Houses to construct in 3 various constituencies
The site at Stapleton, St. Peter’s will accommodate around 26 homes, featuring single, two and three-bedroom options. Meanwhile, the government has laid the foundation for 20 homes in Ottleys.
Along with that, the land has already been cleared for the construction of 30 houses in Farm Meadows, Sandy Point. The project is also expected to expand to Newton Ground and other communities in the near future.
The main objective behind the construction of these houses is to restore confidence of the people in the minds of working-class citizens, enhancing the standard of living of the residents.
These climate-smart homes will also be equipped with modern facilities including solar energy, water storage tanks and much more.
Government’s vision of constructing 2400 climate-smart hospitals
The Government of St Kitts and Nevis have partnered with the East Coast Housing Development Limited to construct around 2400 homes for deserving families in the country. Under this initiative, the government has already delivered 112 homes, surpassing numbers set by previous administration.
The beneficiaries of these homes are the individuals who had owned land for many years, but not had the opportunity to build homes on their properties.
Emphasising on the initiative, Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley said that these are not just homes but an investment into generations to come. He added that this is a significant investment into the welfare of their children, grand-children and great-grandchildren.
Minister Hanley added that this initiative undertaken by them shed light on their commitment to providing affordable, high-quality, climate-resilient housing to its citizens.
He added that the NHC, is dedicated to ensuring that all housing developments align with their building code standards and are available to low- and middle-income families.
He further went on to say that their broader initiative is to increase accessible housing solutions to as many residents as possible. Minister Hanley asserted that they are committed to meet the growing demands of the citizens, all while enhancing the standard of living for countless families who reside across the island.
