Nevis: Premier Mark Brantley toured the temporarily erected field hospital at the Alexandra Hospital grounds on Tuesday. He assessed the functioning of the unit and lauded the health team for their efforts in building infrastructure in Nevis.

He was joined by other cabinet colleagues including Eric Evelyn, Alexis Jeffers, Jahnel Nisbet and other officials. The visit was to assess the trial run of the facility as it will be used for national disaster purposes or any health emergency.

The critical medical unit was erected as a practical demonstration of the health emergency response plan of Nevis Island Administration.

Such field hospitals, equipped with beds, privacy screens, toilets, shower, electricity and a host of other features is designed to provide immediate medical treatment and serve as temporary facilities should the main hospital become compromised during a disaster.

Premier Brantley commended the leadership of Jahnel Nisbet for her role in the health sector. He said that her team has done an exceptional job in ensuring that Nevis continues to develop its health sector and critical human and other physical infrastructure.

He noted,” I commend the leadership of a young woman in Health the Hon Jahnel Nisbett and her entire team for ensuring that Nevis continues to develop its health sector and its critical human and physical infrastructure.”

The collaborative exercise between the Ministry of Health and the Nevis Disaster Management featured members of the Public Health Maintenance team, Alexandra Maintenance team and supervisory assistance from the Public Works Department.

In the event of a disaster, all hands are required on deck to safeguard lives and livelihood. Jahnel Nisbett also publicly thanked her team at the Ministry of Health and all the workers across departments who contributed in any capacity to ensuring that they are prepared and able to respond swiftly in the event of an emergency.

The field hospitals were donated by the US Government through its Southern Command to the government of St Kitts and Nevis.
