Construction has begun on the foundation of nine houses in Dumfries, Carriacou, in the new housing scheme area. This initiative took place under the government’s recent scheme of the ‘Mon Rush Housing Initiative,’ which was a part of the Hurricane Beryl incentive package. The government hired three contractors to construct these nine houses and looks forward to working on many more constructions in the upcoming months.

Project Build Back Better construction of seven houses is presently taking place, with the plan to build at least fifty houses by December. These projects are taking place as a relief package for those people who lost their lands and homes this year due to the hurricane.

Hurricane Beryl first made landfall as a Category 4 storm on Carriacou Island on the morning of 1 July 2024. With maximum sustained winds of 150 miles (240 kilometers) per hour, the storm damaged all of the structures on the island, affecting its entire population.

The whole of Grenada was affected by Hurricane Beryl, which destroyed the central northeast region. It has caused damage to various parts of Grenada, along with several other countries such as Saint Vincent, Barbados, etc. After this incident came into the limelight, a grant of $11 million dollars was announced by the government under the initiative ‘Mon Rush New Housing Scheme.’

Mon Rush New Housing Scheme has been looking after the construction of houses in the Grenada area and has also provided various large-scale repairs to the houses.

Several other initiatives also took place, such as providing essential materials to farmers of Grenada and a grant of $4500 to those with less than 5 acres of land and $9000 to those with more than 5 acres of land.

The Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government updated on their official Facebook handle regarding the ongoing construction work in the new housing scheme area. They have provided information regarding the needs of people and how they are working upon to provide for them.

Netizens extended their appreciation to the government and ministries for doing such an excellent job for the people. They have also stood together during this grief hour to provide every possible help to those affected during this time.

The government of Grenada has been providing major benefits to the people in terms of incentive packages, housing schemes, educational loans, etc. It is expected that this Housing scheme initiative will cover a maximum number of houses this year and do major large-scale repairs to prevent any disaster in the future.
