Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, held an emergency meeting with the leadership of the Police Force and the Defence Force to review the current situation also formulating strategies to deal with the crime.
PM Drew stated, “Since I was elected Prime Minister, I have spared no resources to deal with this very complex issue.” He further shared that the meeting was held to address the pressing issue and to make the policies so as to curb this alarming trend.
The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Glenroy Blanchette, High Command of the Police and Defence Force, which was held at the at Police Headquarters.
Further, this meeting is considered to be crucial in reviewing the homicides and strategizing ways to overcome them. During the meeting, PM Drew expressed his concern over the increase in gun-related incidents. He also emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
PM Drew noted, “The protection of our citizens is paramount. We will make the necessary resources at our disposal available to the security forces to combat this threat and restore peace to our communities.”
The High Command of the Police and Defence Force also presented a complete analysis on the recent incidents, also by identifying the followed patterns and the underlying causes behind them.
The discussion was aimed at coming up with both immediate and long-term measures. The authorities have also decided to increase patrolling, set up strategic deployments, focus on increasing intelligence operations, and also take help from the community by engaging them in initiatives.
Reaffirming the government’s and authorities’ dedication, PM Drew shared, “We are preparing for the next step, which is the national consultation on crime and violence based on the principles of public health.”
He further shared, that the police department is committed and is conducting assessments to adjust the strategies and implement the ones that are most effective.
Also, PM Drew advised that if everyone united on this matter, then we could beat the violence that had been affecting us for decades.
