Montserrat: The island of Montserrat is currently facing several issues, one of which is that the fuel supply crisis is affecting the two carriers, Fly Montserrat and SVG. Due to the delayed delivery by the supplier of AVGAS in Antigua, they were refiling from Nevis, but currently, they can’t distribute more.
Amid the ongoing crises a joint statement by the Governor and the Government of Montserrat states that they are continuously working on recognising the challenges the island has been facing and are coming up with solutions that would help in long term and would improve the situation and that too in permanent basis.
It is to be noted that the AVGAS has failed to receive its scheduled delivery and it has further delayed till 4 August and if they receive it on that day the airlines will get the supply a day after. For the time being the airlines have been taking the fuel from Nevis.
Sharing the update on its fuel levels, SVG confirmed that it will run until fuel stocks are exhausted and will start the service again when the new Antigua fuel stock is available.
Further, Fly Montserrat will start its fuelling in Guadeloupe on Wednesday (31st July) to continue the flights. They authorities also shared that this may create some delays to flight timings.
The government has made several decisions to overcome the challenging period and ensure the safety and security of Montserrat. It states that the Fly Montserrat will continue to fly but the passengers are advised to be aware that flight times could change.
Additionally, limited number of helicopter flights will begin between Antigua and Montserrat on the 31st July and the team will prioritise the flights for the visitors that have already booked the flight that is currently not operating which include running, returning, or the connecting flights in Antigua.
The residents that are in Antigua and have booked flights for return, any medical urgency or appointment with approval from the Chief Medical Officer, will be given priority.
Also, the ones that will not be accommodated, flights will be reassigned to them as the airlines operate.
The government advised the people that it is a short-term challenge, and they are significantly working on it to resolve it.
