Chu Maoming toured the Dominican Club at Roseau Central Constituency along with Minister Melissa Skerrit.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Melissa Skerrit, visited Chinese Ambassador Chu Maoming on October 9, 2024. Both of them visited the Dominican Club at Roseau Central Constituency. The Minister briefly addressed the basic design and the development of the project to the Chinese Ambassador. The Senator, Oscar George, and the President of the Dominica Olympic Committee also accompanied them during the tour.
The visit focuses on improving the sports facilities in Dominica. Several projects are initiated that include the transformation and renovation of sports clubs. In the recent project on the High Street, both the Olympic Committee and Panam Sports are closely examining the progress.
The government of Dominica has increased the facilities to improve sports and athletic performance of Dominica. Several international sports, such as the Olympics, ICC tournaments, and Football tournaments, are the major games in which players from Dominica take part. Therefore, the government decided to provide more equipment to the players so that they could perform well in sports.
Earlier this year, the Chinese Government called for Dominican friendship to develop future cooperation that will benefit both regions. China plans to provide assistance to Dominican people in various fields. 20 years ago, Dominica and China had developed a diplomatic tie which shows their mutual trust.
As China and Dominica have a strong relationship, China has been providing support in sports. In December 2021, China donated twenty-two table boards to the Ministry of Sports of Dominica. This shows China’s commitment towards the friendship and diplomatic relationship with Dominica.
Recently, The Chinese Ambassador attended several ceremonies where China-Dominica bilateral relationships were the major talking point. In addition to the sports project, Dominica looks forward to improving its tourism sector in China. It will attract Chinese visitors to explore Caribbean islands. Focusing on education, China also ensured that it will provide educational scholarships to Dominican students.
The Ambassador of China, Chu Maoming, assured the government of Dominica of constant support. Focusing on long standing diplomatic relationships, China will provide financial assistance as well as friendly support to Dominica in sports, tourism, education, and various other projects.
The Dominican government looks forward to engage more in Dominica-China relationships. Melissa Skerrit shared her gratitude on social media, thanking the People’s Republic of China.
“We thank His Excellency and The Government of the People’s Republic of China for their assistance in the completion of this project, which will further our goals in the development of the city through sports, entertainment, and tourism,” she wrote.
